We have here a beautiful 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk, complete with its original Paxton supercharged 289. This car would easily be worth $22,500, especially in this nice of condition.
What’s that you say? The extra zero isn’t a typo?! TWO HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS?!?!
Coffee hurts when it comes out of your nose.

ooooooo thats very nice
never seen one of those before
but why put the car on the list of craig if you think you can get over 200k for it?
seems like the wrong place to me

And Idaho plates and kind of an Idaho looking house (which probably didn’t cost much more than that 225K). Weird flip or someone is snorting something.

Eh, that’s at least excellent condition.
$48 k’s a more reasonable price than $22k .

Indeed!

Or another boomer forgot to save for retirement and they're hoping to strike gold?

It’s an auto show winner. While I don’t think a
Studebaker is worth much, he's better off taking it to auction.

One sold on BJ for $75k recently, and we all know that’s where people with more money than brains go to show off to other people with more money than brains...
My dad sold his Avanti recently for $25k. I'd 10/10 rather Avanti for cheaper.

You’d think I’d find that offensive as Oppo’s resident Studebaker fanboi, but it’s truth. Studebakers aren’t worth what the more desirable big 3's flagship models are.

I’d wager one hundred billion dollars your guess is close, if not exactly right.

BaT is exactly thebest tool to judge the market but looks like he definitely sell it for 20-30K. Closest example I could find on BaT sold for 35K

Another went to 22K but didn ’t sell

These just aren’t 6 figure cars.

Also a hat from a Studebaker meet in Spokane, WA on the seat. Either a flip or somebody moved a long way.

Yep. Not even close.

Yeah... Nice car and a bit desirable as a collectible... but not 6-figure desirable/collectible.
Serious buyers only? Nah buddy... Serious sellers only... and the guy selling this isn’t serious about selling.
Also note that in the past on ebay classifieds , he asked $250K for it:

I’m hoping my car survives 50 years and I’ll sell it to some classic collector for $50,000. :v
(Nah, more likely to be donated to a museum for law enforcement, lol.)

I googled the number and found a link to an image from a similarly overpriced 57 Chevy sedan. Maybe inherited cars, too.

Here’s one that needs restoration for $8950.

You could plate all the chrome with gold and cover the seats in baby ostrich and still spend less that the $200k difference between these cars.

Here’s some advice - if you have to clarify that the price is $225k and not $22.5k in the body of the ad, it’s a crack pipe.

BaT isn’t a very good reference for old American cars, tbh. I follow those cars fairly closely and it’s hit or miss as to whether they find the right buyers or not.

Or, his wife wants the car gone so they can downsize to a smaller place, and he’s listing it at a price he knows is way too high to get any interest.
![]() 12/28/2018 at 19:43 |

That looks incredibly straight, clean and complete! Barring any unforeseen hidden rot, that would be an easy restoration.
“Honey, can I have $9k for another non-running Studebaker? What are you doing with that knife? What’s that crazy look in your eyes? Honey?!”

It’s sad that people think that because they put lots of money/love into a car its worth that. I kinda feel bad for them.

Oops. It wa s supposed to say “ BaT isn’t.” Oh well, who needs proof reading?
![]() 12/29/2018 at 02:15 |

If he put anywhere close to $200k into a Studebaker he's been pretty damn foolish with his money.

Lol I suspected that might be what you meant, but wasn’t sure.
Probably Kinja autocorrect - it does some very strange things sometimes.
